Getaway with Girlfriends

This past weekend I took a trip out to the Hamptons with my two girlfriends for a relaxing getaway. I have to say, I love girls weekends. We had the absolute best time. On Friday we spent the day in the exhaustingly hot weather at the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium in Riverhead, New York. (Checking this off my Summer Checklist!) Despite the heat, we had so much fun. We saw the sea lion show, watched the sharks, played with starfish and stingrays. I love going to the Aquarium. It's definitely one of my favorite pastimes. And after that we stopped in Ralphs for much needed water and creme ices to cool us off. For the rest of the weekend we lounged around by the pool for hours, reading magazines, swimming and listening to an awesome 90's playlist. We barbecued, baked, and indulged in way more delicious food than we probably should have. And at night we roasted smore's (I would check this off the Summer Checklist also except we did it over the stove, so I don't think this counts), watched movies and played games. It was a perfect mini vacation. I can't wait to do it again!

Crazy for Crew

Ever since I started working at Madwell, I have a seriously unhealthy obsession with all things J Crew. Everything is just so timeless but still current and on trend. J Crew re-opened their Manhasset location today after moving to a larger, two-floor store so I had to stop in there and see it for myself. I have to say, I was impressed. It was beautiful and they had so much more inventory than the old one as well as the other locations I've been too. It was really lovely. Of course I ended up picking up a few things. I got the Face Stockholm Nail Polish in Neon Sunset, such a gorgeous neon pink. Perfect for summer.  I also picked up a new bracelet, which I love. (I couldn't find it on their website but it was $22.50 I think.) And lastly, I purchased the Drapey Elbow-Sleeve Tee that I actually saw first on Pinterest here. I love stripes. I'm very excited about my new purchases!

Summer Checklist

Although summer hasn't officially started yet, I've been out of school for a couple of weeks now. My weekdays and weekends have been so busy with work and other obligations that I haven't had a chance to really enjoy being free of homework, projects and crazy professors. So I decided it might be a good idea to make a list of things I want to do this summer, whether they be big or small. A checklist of sorts. I'm a sucker for a to-do list. These are ten things I want to do before summer ends:

1. Go to the Atlantis Aquarium on Long Island.

2. Take a much needed vacation with my boyfriend.

3. Watch a movie on the lawn in Bryant Park at the HBO Summer Film Festival

4. Roast marshmallows and make s'mores with friends.

5. Purchase new bedding. Maybe from Anthropologie!

6. Take a day trip to Charleston, South Carolina. (Pat & I always say we're going to do this when I visit and we never follow through.)

7. Host a dinner party and invite all my girl friends.

8. Get my portfolio together and apply for Fall internships.

9. Spend a day doing some tourist-y things in New York City. I really want to see a play and go to the Bodies Exhibit at the South Street Seaport.

10. Go to the beach and be outside as much as possible.

Room of the Week

I recently stumbled across an article from February's Vogue that gave a glimpse into the Southampton home of designer Tory Burch. I was blown away by some of the rooms in her house so instead of doing a Room of the Week, this will be more of a Rooms of the Week post. Much like her collections, Tory Burch's home is filled with tons of bold patterns and different textures. For some people this may be a bit too much but I think her home is so true to who she is. It's so unique! I absolutely love it. I noticed a lot of woven textures, especially in her living room. She also used a lot of blues and greens in several of the rooms in her home, colors perfect for a hampton's home. She uses many different patterns in one room but they all compliment each other in the best way. Even though there's a lot of "stuff" everywhere, it's not too cluttered, it's still a relaxed and inviting space. Loves it!

Cupcake Fondue

I've been so busy with final projects the past week I've been neglecting my blogging duties. Terrible, I know. But what's been getting me through this last bit of school is thinking about all of the fun plans I have coming up in the summer. Extremely excited about my birthday, which is in the beginning of June. Desserts are my absolute favorite and I've been looking at recipes to try to make for a "dessert bar" at my birthday. I came across this photo of cupcake fondue. GENIUS. Cupcakes are my number one choice of dessert so this is perfectly fitting for me. Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting and tons of topping layed out on a table. I think making your own desserts is so much fun.  I love this idea.

A Special Treat

Yesterday morning I flew home after spending a week and a half in Myrtle Beach visiting my boyfriend. I had so much fun but coming home, back to reality, was depressing. When I got home I went straight to school and my friend Victoria had a special treat waiting for me. A nice little pick me up. She brought me these amazing homemade Orange Creamsicle Cookies. They have a light summery taste with the perfect amount of white chocolate chips and orange zest. Honestly, so delish! She posted the recipe on her blog last month here. You must try them! (P.S. Thanks Vicky!)

Summer Scent

I've always felt that you should have a signature scent. Personally I like to have one scent for winter and one for summer. In winter I like to wear Miss Dior Eau De Parfum. I love floral scents. This one is a little bit strong with notes of Italian mandarin, Egyptian jasmine and patchouli. It's the perfect scent for the winter months. Last summer I needed a new scent, something lighter but still floral, so I decided to purchase Chloe Chloé Eau de Parfum and fell in love. It's so fresh and subtle with top notes of pink peony, freesia and lychee. I loved it so much that I repurchased it today! I can not say enough good things about this perfume. I'm so excited I can't wait to start using it again.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday! It feels like summer in New York City today. We've gotten a blast of warm weather in the past week or so and it's only going to continue getting hotter as this week goes on. I could not be more excited. My whole mood changes when the weather is nice. I'm happier and more optimistic and less stressed! It has me thinking that, although I love New York, maybe I should be living somewhere that's warm all year round. Hello California! I haven't been to California since I was young but I've always dreamed of moving there. The older I get the more I think about moving there and the more tangible my dream seems. I think I'll have to take a trip there soon.

Wishful Wednesday

Wishing for some summer sun and beach weather! So tired of wearing my winter jacket!

Seashells by the Seashore

Usually I'm against any decor that's blatantly obviously for a summer home, but in this case I'm all for it. I love the pure white and sandy color mixed with the cool blues. My favorite accent in these photos is the ladder holding shoes, scarves and even a dress. So cute. I love the way this looks.

Summer Reading List

Usually when summer rolls around I'm reading book after book but so far I have yet to pick up one! It's a sin. So I've compiled a list of a few books I'd like to get at Barnes & Noble for my summer reads.

Citrus Salt Body Scrub

When summer rolls around it means it's time to show some skin. After a nasty cold winter, I know my skin is dull and dry. I found this recipe on the Paula Deen website (turns out not everything she makes contains butter) for homemade citrus salt body scrub. It's so easy and takes less than 5 minutes. It's an amazing exfoliant and so moisturizing. It's the best way to add a healthy glow to your skin. All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients below into a dry bowl and be sure not to let any water touch it. Then pour the mixture into an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup sea salt
1/2 cup sweet almond oil (light olive oil or vegetable oil)
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon orange zest

Ole!

Nothing screams summer more than vibrant colors and ethnic prints. Lucky Magazine featured a spread in their July 2011 issue called "Color Outside The Borders" and it is beyond perfection. It has everything I could dream of that I would want in my summer wardrobe: colored denim, bold patterns, lightweight knits and all things bright.
